The Central ward is the most disadvantaged (and funniest shaped) ward in Darlington. The Partnership represents people who live in the ward and gets involved with all types of projects that will improve local residents’ lives. The Partnership is a “stakeholder” partnership with a variety of partners from organisations who work in the area and a number of residents. Partners include Sure start, YMCA, St James Church, South Darlington Credit Union, Morrisons Enterprise Trust, Gurney Pease School and Borough Road Nursery.
We have developed an Action Plan - pdf document of what we would like to achieve over the next few years. Current projects include a “Music for All” family event at the Forum Music Centre at Borough Road. This was held on Wednesday 31st August. We hope to make this an annual event. Another priority project is to develop the community and school football facilities at Gurney Pease School at Albert Hill.
The Partnership has seen the benefits of the Fair Share initiative already with great improvements to St James Church Hall and the appointment of the Fair Share Community Development Worker. Also the Facilities Options Appraisal which will be useful tool when looking at community venues in Central Ward. For more information on the Fair Share initiative, please go to the Fair Share page.
The partnership are always looking for new people to take part in projects and activities. If you would are interested ring the number below. The Community Partnership can provide help and support for new and existing volunteers as well as providing training and a current reference if you are wanting to get back into learning or work.
We meet every month, but because of the funny shaped ward, we have a number of venues to try and encourage new residents to attend. For more information on how to get involved, please contact Joanne Scott, Community Development Worker, Darlington Borough Council, 13 Horsemarket, Darlington, DL1 5PW, email joanne.scott@darlington.gov.uk or telephone 07966347109.
