Arrange services to enable people to live as independently as possible in their local communities, for as long as they are able. Much of this 'care in the community' is actually provided by family and friends, so we aim to support carers as well as the people they care for.
We work very closely with a range of organisations to make sure that we provide everyone with the right sort of help to meet their needs. For example, we work in partnership with:
- Staff that look after your health e.g. Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists
- Voluntary and independent organisations
- Police and Probation
- Education and Housing
Who needs help?
Everyone does at some time in their lives. There may be more services than you might think which can be arranged through Social Services. We help all sorts of people. For example:
We support people who, with just that little bit of help, can live rewarding lives in the community. This may be people leaving hospital, families in crisis, children and parents in distress, disabled people living at home, drug abusers, people in nursing or residential homes, children and foster carers, people rebuilding their lives who want to be more independent, people who have a long term illness and carers.
We care for young people in distress, people suffering from domestic violence, destitute asylum seekers, traumatised parents and children, pregnant school girls, elderly people without families, friends etc.
We protect children from abuse, the community from child abusers, women from aggressive partners, young people from making damaging wrong decisions, vulnerable people from harm, including vulnerable elderly men and women, people with mental health problems who simply want to live independently in communities.
