Local Action 21 is an international initiative designed to encourage local communities to work towards sustainability within their areas of control and influence.
Darlington Borough Council offers grants of up to £1,000 to charitable organisations and schools to support projects that support this work. In addition the Council facilitates a number of campaigns designed to increase awareness about sustainability issues. Examples include the use of renewable nappies, fair trade produce, sustainable transport, energy efficiency and recycling.
